What are Hurricanes? Hurricanes are twisting tropical storms that form over the Pacific or Atlantic ocean. These cyclones are very dangerous and can carry winds recorded of up to 183 mph. They sometimes hit land and will damage billions of dollars worth of property. Among the property that can be destroyed is anything in its way from homes, vehicles, buildings including trees and land. Recently Louisiana and Texas have been affected by Hurricane Laura. Hurricane Laura What started near Puerto Rico on Saturday August 22nd eventually worked its way through the gulf of Mexico creating high waters and flooding of Southern Louisiana and Eastern Texas by Monday August 24th. Hurricane Laura entered a category 4 hurricane with winds of up to 150 mph and made landfall in Southern Louisiana early morning Thursday August 26th. Hurricane Laura has caused 850,000 people to be out of power in Texas. There is a widespread flooding including wind damage to telephone poles, trees, homes, and buildings. We are praying for all the families and businesses affected by Hurricane Laura. We will continue to do our part in helping rebuild the cities they were destroyed.
